OVERVIEW:
When Naturally Iowa began construction work on its plant, in the spring of 2004, we started with little more than walls, floor, ceiling, and a design concept in a 28,500 sq. ft. building.
Each piece of equipment and piping must be assembled and connected precisely to function properly. Every step of the process requires meticulous attention to detail in order to meet all USDA health and safety standards for dairy processing.
One year later, in the spring of 2005, construction and connections were nearly complete, and the plant conducted test runs of the system. Milk processing began in the fall of 2005.
Once the raw milk arrives at our Clarinda, Iowa plant, the work begins all over again. The milk is held in refrigerated bulk tanks with eleven thousand gallons of capacity.
Naturally Iowa adheres to a strict policy of using only the cold separation method for processing its fluid milk, which allows for the highest quality end product in terms of flavor while maintaining the naturally healthful benefits of organic or all-natural milk. We believe that Naturally Iowa’s end product tastes superior to other products because the majority of other dairy producers use the traditional ultra high temperature pasteurization (UHTP) which heats the fluid milk at 275° F.
However, the most unique aspect of our plant in Clarinda is that it is the only IMS (Interstate Milk Shippers) approved dairy processing plant in the world that manufactures PLA bottles and is approved to ship them accross state lines and internationally.
Our drinkable yogurt goes through a slightly different process after the milk is pasteurized and homogenized. We use our exclusive Naturally Iowa formula, which keeps the probiotic bacteria strains alive so that you reap all of the health benefits.
The ice cream production wing in our plant can produce over 300 gallons per hour in a variety of package sizes and shapes.
Even more important than the machinery, are the people with the expertise that keep the plant working to meet the highest standards of health, safety, flavor and overall quality.
